Private Label Clothing Manufacturing: A Brand’s Playbook
Private label means the garment carries your name, not the factory’s. The sewing is the easy part; the label, care text, hangtag and packing are where new brands lose weeks. Here is the sequence that avoids that.
- Confirm labels before cutting, not before shipping.
- Care content follows the fabric, so decide fabric first.
- Hangtags, polybags and carton marks are separate specs.
- Ask for a packing sample, not just a garment sample.
1. What private label actually includes
Your woven label, care label, hangtag, polybag or hanger, and carton marks. The factory produces the garment and applies your identity. Nothing carries a factory consumer brand — we do not sell one.

2. The label spec sheet
| Item | What to decide |
|---|---|
| Woven label | Material, size, fold type, placement |
| Care label | Fibre content, wash and iron instructions |
| Hangtag | Artwork, size, string or pin |
| Packing | Polybag or hanger, size sticker, carton mark |
3. Care content follows the fabric
Do not lock care text before the fabric is confirmed. A polyester crepe and a viscose twill need different wash guidance, and a wrong care label is a compliance problem, not a cosmetic one.
4. Ask for a packing sample
One finished piece, bagged, tagged and boxed exactly as the bulk will ship. It is the cheapest way to catch a label sewn on the wrong seam or a hangtag that will not scan.

5. Timeline
Labels and hangtags need lead time. Confirm them alongside the fabric, then production can run without a stop at packing.
