Custom Clothing Manufacturing: Reference Sample to Bulk

Sending a sample is the fastest way to explain a design. It is not a shortcut past the pattern stage. This is the route from a reference piece to a bulk order that matches it.

The short version

  • A sample is a reference, not a spec.
  • Pattern and grading still come first.
  • Approve a fit sample before grading.
  • Check the pre-production sample against the approved fit.

1. Turn the reference into a spec

We measure the sample point by point and note construction: seam type, lining, closures, trims. That document becomes the base for the pattern.

2. Pattern and first sample

The pattern is drafted to your base size, then a sample is made in a comparable fabric. Review fit, balance and finish, then mark corrections.

3. Grading across the size range

Once the fit is signed off, the pattern is graded. Grading errors show up as tight armholes or a hem that rises at the back — catch them on the graded set, not in bulk.

4. Pre-production sample

Check What you are confirming
Measurements Match the approved chart
Fabric Same weight, shade and hand
Trims Correct zip, buttons, labels
Finish Seams, pressing, hem

5. Bulk

Bulk runs to the approved pre-production sample, with in-line checks and a final inspection before packing.
